Pulaski Area Historical Society Seeking Volunteers for New Meat Market History Project
PULASKI, WI — August 31, 2026 — Do you remember the old-fashioned meat markets that once served the Pulaski area? Perhaps you remember a family-owned market, working behind the counter, buying fresh meat for your family, or enjoying homemade sausage made the traditional way.
The Pulaski Area Historical Society is inviting community members to help preserve those memories and stories as it begins planning a special historical exhibit highlighting the old-fashioned meat markets of the Pulaski area.
The Historical Society is currently forming a Meat Market Committee and is looking for volunteers who are interested in researching local history, sharing memories, locating photographs and memorabilia, and helping develop the exhibit.
A Chance to Help Tell Pulaski's Story
Committee members will help research the meat markets that operated in Pulaski and the surrounding area, including their owners, families, locations, products and role in the community.
The committee will also seek out:
Old photographs and family pictures
Meat market advertisements and business information
Stories and memories from former customers and employees
Recipes and information about traditional sausage-making
Historical signs, equipment or other memorabilia
Information about families who owned or operated local meat markets
Volunteers will also help design and install the exhibit and assist with planning a special community event that may include an old-fashioned sausage-making demonstration or activity.
“This is one of those projects where we know there are stories and memories throughout our community that may not be written down anywhere,” said Tammy Brzeczkowski, who is coordinating the volunteer committee. “We want to find those stories before they are lost and give people an opportunity to share what they remember about these important local businesses.”
No History Degree Required!
The Historical Society emphasizes that volunteers do not need to be historians to participate.
Anyone who enjoys Pulaski history, research, storytelling, genealogy, old photographs, cooking, sausage-making or simply learning about the community's past is encouraged to get involved.
The committee will be a 6–7 month commitment, with meetings scheduled to begin in January 2027 and continue through approximately July 2027 as the group researches, develops and prepares the exhibit and related event.
And you don't have to join the committee to help.
If you have a photograph, story, recipe, business card, advertisement, newspaper clipping, piece of equipment or simply a memory about a Pulaski-area meat market, the Historical Society would love to hear from you.
